Government Announces Massive Rail Fare Increases

The LibDem/Tory Government has announced that train ticket prices are to rise 30% by 2014, with little relief to the "cattle truck" conditions before 2019.

Beleaguered passengers will have little choice other than to pay up front, on what is already far and away the most expensive and over-crowded rail network in Europe, with the politicians' promise of improvements at the end of the decade. While the headlines claim an extra 2,100 carriages, only 650 will arrive by 2014.

Independent transport groups said Government promises of ‘jam tomorrow’ will do little to help those ‘jammed today’ on overcrowded trains.
